I’ve been thinking about the words in this photo and whether or not I agree with them.  The fact that we are alive at all is amazing and it should be sufficient, but I don’t think it’s that simple anymore.  Now, life means growing old, learning how to adhere to social rules, realizing that morality deals in shades of gray and rarely at face value, etc.  For some, it also means bringing another into this world to go through the same process.  But life also means loving, losing, experiencing a palette of emotions.  ”Sufficient” is a very objective word to use here.  I personally don’t find life to be sufficient.  I don’t think society would be where it is today if people thought life was sufficient, self-explanatory, and/or complete.  It’s the feeling of emptiness in life that drives people to find meaning.  Some people are able to create meaning for themselves but there are others who will search endlessly, desperate to find anything that might fill that feeling of emptiness.  For those people, life is unfulfilling, a perpetual mystery, and incomplete until they whisper their last breath.
